Blogging for Business
A blog about blogging? We know, pretty meta, right? The thing is, you probably already know what a blog is. I mean, let’s get real. Your favorite influencer? They have a blog. Your friend from high school who is way too into indie movies? They have a blog. Your sister-in-law’s dog? He has a blog! Can you see where we’re going with this?
While blogs may be everywhere, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have one of your own. In fact, B2B marketers who use blogs reported 67% more leads than those who opt-out. Do we have your attention? Keep reading for more information about what blogs are used for, and how you can share your blogs for maximum attention on your website!
Top 3 Reasons to Blog for Your Business
1. Search Engine Rankings
One of the top reasons to have a blog is to help increase the SEO or search engine optimization of your site. Search engines are always on the crawl for sites that have relevant information on websites that are updated frequently with new content.
The best way to merge the two is with a blog! Write your blog on timely information that’s relevant to your industry. For example, if you’re a hotel in a resort town, you may want to blog about “Top 5 Activities in [insert town here], or cover information about a big event or upcoming holiday. This will help increase your chances for ranking organically for these queries on Google.
Adding new content that is aligned with what users are searching for will help your blog increase in rankings over time. While this long-term strategy may not be as instantaneous as a paid ad strategy, it ends up being a long-lasting solution because that information is always on your site!
2. Increasing Website Traffic
While website pages such as your home page and product pages may be great for people who are already interested in your business, they won’t attract new prospects to your page. How can you attract new leads? Insert the blog.
Consider this, you’re the owner of a local restaurant, and want to rank on a search engine when people search “carryout options in [insert town here]”. What do you do? You write a blog about your carryout options!
While customers may not be specifically searching for your business name, by blogging about your carryout cuisine, you increase your chances to be seen on a search engine result page, and you might even get that searcher to decide they’re doing business with your company!
3. Position Your Business as the Expert
You know your business, you know your industry- so write about it! Sharing information about any given topic can help you become the expert in your field while writing about something that you enjoy. Do you love camping and finding new places to camp? Write a blog about the Top 5 Places to Camp in Maryland, or Must-Have Supplies for Camping.
Another example of this? Well, you’re reading one! At D3, we’re a talented crew with multiple departments from design to development, marketing, email marketing, social media, paid advertisements, and almost everything in between. We decided to take what we know and put the pen to paper to share our knowledge with business owners, freelancers, start-ups, and other marketers in our ID3AS blog.
How and Where to Share Your Blog
Hello? Is anyone home? If you’re feeling like this after hitting “publish” on your latest blog post, we feel your pain. However, if you’re just waiting for the traffic to come, then you may want to warm up that coffee and grab your favorite book. As writers, we work in hyperdrive to develop quality content for our brand, and sometimes, by the time it’s out for the world, *crickets*.
As exciting and eloquent as your content may be, as many keywords that you may stuff in there, sometimes, it just gets overlooked by search engines. This is why it’s always best practice to manually promote your posts and let the world know that great content is out there, waiting to be read!
Where should you be sharing your content? Consider the following...
-
Email Your Subscribers: The first thing you should do after publishing is to share your new content with your email subscribers. After all, they subscribed to you for a reason!
-
Publish on Social: Share your content with all of your friends on social. Don’t forget to check back on the post frequently to engage with commenters and help the algorithm rank your content.
-
Interlink Posts: Don’t forget to interlink your content and link back to old and relevant content in your new blog post! Your readers may have missed the last one, so remind them that you’ve written something that they may be interested in before. Similarly, go back to those old posts and link to the new one!
-
Ask for a Hand: There’s no shame in asking others to help you promote your content! Ask your peers, friends, and other bloggers to share your content with their followers!
At D3, we practice what we preach. Our process is simple and follows a similar formula. We write the post and hit “publish”, then we share our content with the world! We’ll send out an email on publishing day, alerting our subscribers that there’s new information for them to read. Then we schedule posts on all social media platforms that we use, and our staff proudly and shamelessly shares, likes, and comments on all things D3 to share the love with our friends, family, and colleagues who may find this useful.
