Search Engine Optimization

Strong content is one of the most important aspects of your site. While readers typically just skim your content, they always skim for keywords while surfing the web. These important keywords and keyword phrases are targeted through Search Engine Optimization – a crucial tool in crafting relevant content.

Google offers a free keyword search tool to help identify beneficial keywords: words.google.com/o/Targeting/Explorer.

Search Engine Optimization is an ever-evolving process that requires diligence and maintenance. Keywords, tags, titles, and content should be refreshed often to maximize search results and ensure that your site and content remains relevant and at the top of internet search results. Adhere to the following tips to keep up to date with SEO:

Keywords: First and foremost, at least one relevant keyword should appear in the first 90 characters of your website’s content. The most effective approach is to feature your keyword or string of keywords in the first and last paragraphs of text on your website. Throughout the first 100 words of text, make sure that each keyword appears at least five times (and no more than 9 times). Keywords should absolutely be included in the title of you page, as well as in text links, as search engines will then rank your content higher. Keyword placement is also paramount, as your ranking will increase with the correct keyword usage in the correct places.

Keyword Phrases: The most effective keyword phrases are two to five words long and describe your business. As a rule of thumb, longer keyword phrases are better than phrases that are too short. When writing keyword phrases ask yourself the following question: What would someone type into a search bar if they were looking for your business?

Targeting Keyword Phrases: Ultimately, keyword phrases are used as a tool for targeting users on your site. It’s best to target a group of keywords or keyword phrases (no more than two or three) to be the focus of your website’s content. Be sure to keep these keywords as specific as possible.

Keyword Density: Keyword Density Check is a helpful tool for calculating the number of keywords used on your site. Too many keywords in one section of content can be flagged by search engines as ‘keyword stuffing’. Once alerted, search engines will flag your site as a website with content that serves no other purpose than to show up first on search engines. Sometimes, less truly is more; up to 5% of your website content should be keywords, no more, no less.

Keyword Rich URLs: After you’ve selected your desired keywords, make sure that your website’s URL is connected to keyword tags. It’s important to fill in secondary meta tags, meta titles, page tags, and page titles with descriptions that relate directly to your desired keywords. Call D3Corp at 410-213-2400 or email Support@D3corp.com and inquire about your website's keyword URLs, tags and titles.

Inbound Linking: Links from outside websites that link to your website are known as Inbound Links. The greater the amount of links that direct to your site, the better, as a search engine will rank your site as more important. Ask friends, coworkers, clients or others in the business to link to your website and then reciprocate the links.

Analyze the Competition: To find out if your site shows up in the search engine before your competitor’s website simply do a search using your specific keywords. Not pleased with the results? Re-work your content, wait two weeks, and search again. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with your ranking.
