Are You Writing for AI, or Letting AI Write for You?

We get it, artificial intelligence is everywhere. It’s streamlining everyday tasks, saving time, and even producing a decent return with the right prompts. So, when you’re busy juggling hundreds of other responsibilities, it’s tempting to let AI take the reins on your website content.
The truth is, letting AI handle all of your content may be doing more harm than good, especially when it comes to your brand voice, SEO, and visibility in both search engine results and AI platforms.
The bottom line is, are you writing for AI, or letting AI write for you?
The Value of an Authentic Brand Voice
The best way to build trust and connection with your audience is through authenticity. Let’s face it, your audience is bombarded with generic and basic content all day, every day, and they can spot the difference between a robot-written blog post and a blog keyed out by hand.
People are starved for and craving genuine personality and real stories. That’s something AI can’t fully replicate. Your brand voice should be consistent, original, and strategically tailored to resonate with your target audience.
When you work with professional copywriters, your content is written with intention, optimized for engagement, and feels human, because it is.
“AI-Written” Doesn’t Mean “AI-Optimized”
AI tools are getting smarter by the day, and they are great for cutting through the online noise and generating basic answers. But, they lack the important, deeper understanding of SEO and evolving search behavior. Just because AI writes the content does not mean that it’s good for SEO.
If you're only using AI to write your content, you're likely missing a solid keyword strategy, which is especially important if you're running Google Ads. When your website content is optimized with the right keywords, it can boost your Quality Score, which helps you get better ad placements and pay less per click!
AI-generated content also tends to overuse the “fluff” or filler content. Making the content pieces longer and more generic dilutes the focus point of the page.
SEO strategies are not “one-size-fits-all”. While AI is getting more sophisticated, there are some items that it cannot handle and should be left to a professional. Especially when it comes to strategic thinking, understanding the nuances of longer-term business goals and applying those goals to your content strategy leads to crafting content that is engaging and resonates with your audience.
And of course, AI is pulling from what already exists online, meaning that your content will lack the competitive edge needed to stand out from the crowd. Not to mention, this content could be considered plagiarized or be downright incorrect.
What Does Google Think of AI Content?
Google has indeed clarified that it doesn’t penalize content for being AI-generated. However, search engines do prioritize helpful, personal, and trustworthy content. If your AI-generated content is not written with experience, expertise, authority, and trust, put simply, it won’t rank (spoiler alert: most doesn’t).
The kicker? If your content isn't ranking well in search engines, it won’t be prioritized in AI-powered engines either.
