The Story

IDEC Elevator Products needed a modern, interactive way for customers to visualize design options for elevator cabs before ordering. The goal was to streamline the design and purchasing process by replacing static product images with an immersive, real-time visualization tool.

Together, IDEC and D3 envisioned a Custom Cab Configurator that would allow clients to design their elevator interiors, from the wall panel colors to the handrail finishes, and view the results from multiple angles. Beyond the configurator, the broader website needed an updated design to refresh its visual appeal while providing deeper insight into the company’s products and services.

A top priority was developing a system that was flexible and easy for IDEC to manage. When new product options become available or others are discontinued, any team member at IDEC should be able to update the configurator without relying on a developer. This ensures the platform can evolve seamlessly alongside changing industry trends and product availability.

Our Journey

The D3 team did an in-depth evaluation of existing tools on the market, comparing off-the-shelf solutions against the potential of developing a fully custom system that would give administrators complete control. 

Built on years of trust and open communication, D3 and IDEC decided to build a custom solution, working collaboratively with our internal development team and a close creative partner who worked exclusively on the project’s detailed artwork. Guided by D3’s structured project management process, the team moved forward efficiently and decisively. 

With an upcoming industry conference fast approaching, the countdown began to have our solution ready for in-person demonstrations. When the D3 team noticed unexpected color inconsistencies, we quickly took the lead, coordinating artwork revisions and ensuring visual accuracy before the conference. 

The result was an intuitive interface that allows users to easily switch between components such as wall panels, ceilings, floors, and handrails, customizing their elevator interiors in real time. End-users now have confidence in their design choices before ordering, reducing rework and miscommunication.
